The alien mothership loomed ahead, massive as a moon, its surface pulsing with purple light. Captain Elena Vasquez flew silent and invisible, the Keeper's cloaking device hiding her from enemy sensors.

"Command, this is Ghost Lead. I'm approaching the target."

"Copy, Ghost Lead. You're on your own. Good luck."

Elena studied the holographic map the Keeper had given her. The power source was in the ship's core, protected by layers of energy shields.

"I need to get inside," she said.

The Keeper's voice echoed in her cockpit. "There is a maintenance airlock on the lower hull. It is unguarded."

Elena guided her Starhawk toward the airlock, matching the mothership's rotation. The hatch opened, and she slipped inside.

The interior was dark, pulsing with organic light. Elena climbed out of her Starhawk, her sidearm ready.

"The core is ahead," the Keeper said. "But there are guards."

Elena moved through the corridors, silent as a shadow. The alien guards were unlike any she had seen-tall, thin, their bodies glowing with purple energy.

She fired, her pulse rifle dropping two of them. The others scattered, shouting in a language she didn't understand.

"They know you're here," the Keeper said.

Elena ran. The core was ahead, a massive sphere of pulsing light.

"Destroy it," the Keeper said.

Elena planted explosives on the sphere's surface, set the timer, and ran.

The explosion shook the mothership. The purple lights flickered, then died.

"The shields are down," the Keeper said. "The fleet is vulnerable."

Elena climbed into her Starhawk and launched, the mothership crumbling behind her.

"Command, this is Ghost Lead. The mothership is destroyed. The fleet is retreating."

"Copy, Ghost Lead. Good work. Come home."

Elena turned her Starhawk toward Earth, the stars streaking past.

The war was over.

But she knew the enemy would return.

And she would be ready.

She touched the photograph of her family, tucked into her flight suit.

"I'm coming home," she whispered.

And somewhere in the cosmos, the Keeper watched, his black eyes glowing.

"You saved us all," he said.

But Elena didn't hear. She was already home.
